Day & night
The clock, how dark it gets, and what changes after dark.
One real second is one game minute. A full day is 24 real minutes, and every new day you survive is worth 25 XP.
| Time | What it's like |
|---|---|
| 07:00–17:00 | Full daylight |
| 17:00–20:00 | Dusk: it gets darker every minute |
| 20:00–05:00 | Night: dark, streetlights are the only light |
| 05:00–07:00 | Dawn |
After dark (20:00–05:30)
- Runners and bloaters start wandering in. See Infected.
- Every zombie sees about 20% further and moves about 15% faster.
- Their eyes glow red, which is often the only way you'll see them.
- More of them roam: each map keeps more infected topped up at night than by day.
Light
- You carry a small circle of light with you. Friends in co-op do too.
- Streetlights light up the road around them. Smash one for metal and it goes dark for three days.
- Inside a building it's darker, and streetlight doesn't reach in.
Plan your day so you're somewhere you know by 20:00. A house you've already cleared is a good place to wait out the dark.
